Games of 2012 – Kevin

If games were a television channel they’d be Dave. For all the innovation in control, sound and visuals, and with improved technologies and enhanced interaction, it’s still the same old same, again and again and again and again ad nauseum. Occasionally they do spring something new on you. Something that loosely uses the term ‘original’. Alas it’s not nearly often enough. It’s contextually unfortunate that 2011 was such an outstanding year for games because while 2012 has been home to some fantastic releases, it’s a bit Dave Ja Vu. Sure they’re great games, but somehow they seem even more familiar…

Games of 2012 – Ben

To me, 2012 will probably stick in my mind as the year that difficulty became a selling point again. This year, one of the most popular online shooters was a game in which I spent the vast majority of my time slowly crawling through desolate eastern european towns, looking for beans. The popularity of Day Z still remains something of a mystery to me, but I remember being utterly enthralled by my time playing it nonetheless. Then there’s Dark Souls, a game which I am sadly yet to play, being marketed almost entirely on the fact that it’s incredibly difficult….
