Unfortunately it’s back to skype for this instalment and it shows approximately 5 seconds in. Chaos. This month/period of time we cover such topics as: Battlefield Bad Company 2, Chaos Rising, Just cause 2, Sup Com 2, Blood Bowl; then on to rambles about Alan Titchmarh and that Game Dating thing. We/I might slightly insult xbox live people in general too. Sorry.
Oh and because we forgot to ask for twitter questions early enough, Ed just finds some on Yahoo answers. Why the fuck not.

Cool podcast. I hate uninformed masses (re: Alan Titchmarsh). :( And I never understand why games like Just Cause 2 (which attempt to be pure awesome and fun, and ONLY that) are always diluted with weird design decisions! C’mon! Don’t be bipolar, games! Stick to one design! And re: ratings, we have the ESRB for that, at least for now. And the laws regarding them are sort of ridiculous, but nothing too messed up (attempts to mess them up even more have been foiled, luckily). And the same thing that happens in the UK happens in the US, regarding parent responsibilities. WTF. Also also, WTF at GameCrush. What a sad way for gamers to be exploited.
By the way, some tips on the podcast:
- Put it out in mono, instead of stereo. I can’t see why you’d have it in stereo, really. I’ve got a partially deaf left ear, so mono helps. Plus it’s speech.
- Lower the compression rate. Speech is still intelligible at…lower bitrates. I don’t have the number at hand, but definitely less than 128. This is because of our physiology in regards to sound. We hear speech much better than other types of sounds.
64 would be the absolute lowest imho. Most audiobooks I listen are acceptable at 96. Those are studio produced, mind.
That’s not the compression rate, my speech is always unintelligible.
Would that make you an alien of some sort? Maybe a dumb alien?
For a dumb alien I’ve mastered this typing lark pretty damn well. Turns out by helicoptering the keyboard with my space penis I create sentences!
Good chatter guys. If you ever want me to tinker with the sound in the future by all means send me the audio files – I don’t know whether you have discrete tracks for each skyper or just one wav or something; either way I can certainly clean it up – not that it’s at all bad as it is.
I just record it with default settings on skype using call graph, then maybe trim the ends using audacity, then upload it…job done.
