Last week I told you how to change Oblivion into something spectacular; now I’m going to show you what it’s like to play. I go on a little adventure and narrate as I go, and also occasionally swear. Possibly loudly. Anyway, take a look at what Oblivion can play like when it’s been fixed – it’s pretty amazing. Bear with me for the first bit, I’m new to this Let’s play format, and apologies for the contrast and resolution being a bit low – not sure why that’s happened in the video.

You’ve unfortunately managed to show how dull the landscapes are – plains and meadows and trees ad nauseam… No amount of mods could fix that.
I actually tried modding Oblivion again a couple of months ago, and spent days doing that. I proceeded to play it for ten hours or so and came to the realization that I had more fun putting the mods together than playing the actual game, with its copypasted terrain, cookie-cutter dungeons (although admittedly OOO made them a bit more interesting), painfully uninteresting characters, samey voice acting, and kinda fundamentally broken character progression system.
Stealing stuff was fun for a while, though. And it CAN be pretty sometimes.
Yeah I agree, my main problem with Oblivion (and why it inevitably hits the kill switch after 15-20 hours every time I start afresh) is that it can all start to feel samey, especially when you compare it to Morrowind.
The mods DO make it more palatable though, I had much more fun with that than vanilla – and since enough people are perfectly happy with Oblivion as-is, it’s worth a look.
I tried playing it recently, but came to the conclusion that Oblivion with guns (Fallout 3) is just far more entertaining.
