Back to Vvardenfell – petty crimiality

Out of the Customs Office I come into the world of Morrowind – a little town called Seyda Neen (I know this from long term memory by the way). It’s stunning. The mod’s I’ve installed have made this place far better than what it was. The trees, the grass, the people especially – it’s all just…better. If you go back to Morrowind you have to mod it, it’s like Morrowind 1.5 – the bastard child of it and it’s younger brother oblivion.

Morrowind: Fargoth

The first person I see is Fargoth (I also know his name from memory), a High Elf with a voice that makes me want to cleave his face off. Fortunately for Fargoth there are pleanty of guards around, each more than willing to give me a good stabbing if I so much thought about combining a dagger and his fleshy meat. Instead I inexplicably get into a conversation with him and he asks me if I’ve seen a magic ring of healing he has somehow lost. As it happens, I have. I’m actually wearing it. He can probably see it, he’s only asking rather than telling out of politeness. I say no anyway, my ring. Score 1 for petty criminality.

Morrowind: Mr Shop Assistant

My pockets are still loaded with loot from the customs office so I decide I’d better offload some of it. I head over to the local Tesco Express (fantasy equivalent anyway) and barter with the Elf behind the counter. He willingly takes everything that I offer (a whole dinner set, some vases, numerous loafs of bread, etc) and sells me a full set of Chitin armour (some sort of leather I think), a Chitin bow, 100 chitin arrows and an iron Tanto. Unfortunately Chitin is quite lightly colored so I’m not very assassiney yet, but there’s plently of time.

Morrowind: Pretty face

I go around the back of the shop to some stairs which lead up to a bar of some sort. Fresh out of prison I don’t really have any friends so start chatting with a big Nord. We exchange pleasantries, small talk and all too quickly he me a little work. No one is disputing that my new equipment is needed, but it has left me a little short, so maybe picking up a quick job might not be a bad thing. The Nord tells me Fargoth is holding out on some money that he’s owed him claiming that he is completely broke but the Nord knows that Forgoth has a hidden stash somewhere. I’m to keep an eye on Fargoth and find out where his stash is, clear it out, then report back to the Nord. Fair enough, this is just my kind of work.

Morrowind: Stalking

At the back of Seyda Neen is a small dock and an accompanying light house which towers into the tree-tops. Such height should provide a good vantage point for watching Fargoth from so I head inside and start climbing up to the top, stealing anything I can find as I go. On the roof, well I can’t see much actually. One of the mods I installed made trees more volumous, and now I’m in the tree tops they are getting in my way. I can just about see Fargoth if I shuffle around a bit, but as it’s the middle of the day he’s not going to do anything anyway. I opt to rest until midnight.

12.00am strikes and within seconds I see Fargoth start creeping around. He starts to head into the swamps where I think he’s keeping his stash, but then gets confused or something and leaves. He’s probably weary because some NPC’s are floating around and he doesn’t want them to see. I come down from the lighthouse and attempt to follow him but he just goes back into his usual routine. Looks like I missed my shot until tomorrow night so I head back to the top of the lighthouse and set myself to wait until midnight the next day.

Morrowind: Ninja, oh noes

Around 9.00pm I’m awoken by something. Holy fuck fuck shit, a ninja is trying to kill me. Tanto stab, arrows fire! Gah! I’m only level 1, I can’t take a ninja. We dance precariously around the top of the lighthouse, a long fall below us. Stab! Fire! Run! Use ring to heal! Stab! With a final swipe of my Tanto The Ninja dies and leaves me on about half health. Ha, stupid ninja. I examine/loot his corpse which is covered in pretty dam good light armour. Actually, it’s very good indeed – the cuirass has an armour rating of 40 compared to the crappy 14 I’m getting from this chitin and since it’s light armour it’s perfect for me to wear. I look down at my first kill then chuckle as I remember what one of the mods does…

Morrowind: lol...

10 minutes in and I remember why I loved Morrowind. All these years on and it doesn’t seem to have lost any of it’s charm – I can’t wait to get further in, especially now I look so unbelievably cool. I don’t know where this story is going to take me. I need to tie up this business with Fargoth first and then I might head to Balmora next and see what’s happening there, but who knows.

Morrowind: I look so cool right now
