On a bored Sunday afternoon I was taking a look through the steam store when I spotted a demo for Tomb Raider: Underworld. It has been getting favorable reviews and has come recommended, but I was struggling to see the appeal of it. It was Tomb Raider…I have never really got on with TR in the past so I didn’t really see this as being much different. It was a free demo though, and I had nothing better to do, so I gave it a try.

Now, first things first, even without lovely Laras’ over enthusiastic, newer, very unpixelated and hexagonal, tits, arse and thighs, this game does pretty very well. Few games have induced such a sense of awe as this lowly demo. Everything is a huge playground, waiting to be mounted, played with and then left behind when finished with, only so our heroin can move on to the show piece puzzle.

The puzzles work, for the demo at least and they are a joy to complete -frustrating at times, but always satisfying. Even if it is just working out a path from A to B (which it mostly is), you will have to go through x,y and z first. You can bet that x will be 20 feet up, y will be across a ravine and z will be guarded by an endangered species. Getting to these points is never a chore – Lara so agile and acrobatic, it’s a complete joy.

What I’m getting at it this: I want the full game. Problem is that it’s nearly Christmas and I’ve ran out of money and present requests. Looks like I will have to wait until next year to raid Laras tomb.
…
Not in that way…honest, I meant….oh fuck it.

Tomb Raider Uncovered whilst being a very clever and fun game is ultimately too short, the fun is over too quickly. May I suggest a 5 day rent from Blockbuster if you’re going to play it legally?
That’s a shame. I hate renting games though, same as getting books from a library. I don’t like knowing I’ve got a time limit.
Do Blockbuster even rent out PC games?
Actually, I don’t think they do. But you’ll finish the game in a good weekend, or over the course of a casual week. Like I said, its still a good game, and there are some novel bits to it.
There’s always pirate bay…
