I just couldn’t take it any more. He was always on my back, pressuring me, or quietly plotting against me. I was close to the brink, but I held myself back. “Don’t be stupid” I thought, “Think of the consequences!”. Then he did something bad. He pushed me too far. It all happened so fast, I barely remember. There was just blood everywhere, some mine, but mostly his. It still hurts to think about what he did, but I’ll just get it out there, finally saying it might make it easier; The round before he camped in a corner and shot me with a rail gun. Mother fucker.

Of course, I’m talking about Quake 3. I’m not killing a boss in real life again ever. Too messy, especially with all the banana everywhere….I digress.
We organized an after hours game of Quake 3 Arena at work. and much fun it was.
For the most part there were four of us: me, Homer_J, Scoops, and Katzilla. Homer_J and katzilla apparantly used to play Quake a while ago, and I never really have, having favored Counter Strike and Unreal Tournament in the past. Scoops on the other hand, didn’t really have any experience. Not only did she have to get on with the twitch gaming of quake, she had the battle of the conversion from Pad to Mouse and Keys.
To start with, Scoops died a lot, Katzilla died some, and I reigned supreme barely dying at all, <Evil>Muhahaha!</Evil> Homer_J took pity, and instead of playing from the get go, showed scoops the ropes. That helped. A lot.

Before long it changed from me charging around the map taking on anyone in my path, to me being dead. Scoops had gotten suddenly better, and Katzilla seemed to get back into the swing of things. The crazyness of quake steadily set it. Bodies everywhere, blood everywhere, explosions ringing in my ears, plasma burning my eyes. Then Homer_J joined, and it got worse.
When the shouts of “Camper!”, “Stop fucking camping!” and the odd “Bastard!” everytime someone got taken down by a rocket or equally hurtey weapon, echoed between rooms through gritted, bitter, teeth, I knew the games were going well.
We finished up by switching to a map, to the likes of which I have never seen

It changed the look of everything, putting me in mind of Team Fortress 2. I loved it, however, there were only rocket launchers, and it was a big, open map, with limited walls to explode rockets off. To get a kill you had to be lucky or very close. In the end though I barley had to do anything for people to die. Suicide was coming thick and fast for everyone. Gaps in floors means falling, and falling means death. It did make it much more interesting as it was quite hilarious to be in a fire fight and watch your opponent take a step back too far to their comedy long drop of doom.
Hopefully this will all turn into a bit of a regualrish thing, and we will be able to get the whole company involved. With that many people, Quake will come into its own.

I WAS NOT CAMPING. I just happened to be admiring the scenery from a corner when you happened to run past, so I shot you in the back. The fact that happened twice is just an unfortunate coincidence.
